Brown University Crew deeply regrets to announce the passing of mascot, head recruiter and team psychologist Butterface, also known as Butter.
For ten years Butter was an integral part of the Brown rowing family. As mascot she supported her rowers with pride and dignity, and made it a point to greet visiting teams when they arrived at Marston Boathouse, giving tours and allowing rowers to pet her. As head recruiter she evaluated young people presented to her for their character, spirit and eagerness to become a part of Brown's successful program. As team psychologist she made her most valuable contribution to Brown by always being there. A poor grade, a grumpy professor, an argumentative parent, money problems, or just a bad row could be put in perspective by consulting her. She liberally handed out purrs to all who sought her council, and soothed many a spirit in turmoil. No team member could ever be more valuable, or more faithful.
Brown Crew will miss her deeply, and will always remember her contribution. Both Brown Crew and the spirit of Butter urge everyone to support your local animal rescue centers or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Please spay or neuter your pets. Ever True.
